The Liverpool side that played at Villa Park on Saturday scored a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Stefan Bajcetic and Jordan Henderson. And it looks as though Jurgen Klopp has been pleased with the efforts of Darwin Nunez and Jude Bellingham, both of whom came off the bench and drew attention.
An 18-year-old kid called Stefan Bajcetic scored his first goal in a Liverpool shirt on Boxing Day, securing a 3-1 win over Aston Villa. He was named on the bench to replace Jordan Henderson.
Bajcetic is one of Liverpool’s most promising young players, and he has already made a strong impression on the club’s U23s. His impressive performance at Villa Park was rewarded by a belated Christmas present from manager Jurgen Klopp.
The midfielder came on during a tense second half, with Liverpool clinging to a 2-1 lead. It was only a matter of time before Bajcetic would score, and it was a well-deserved goal.
Bajcetic showed his composure and awareness on the touchline, spotting a gap in the defence and tucking the ball into the net. It was his first goal for the club, and the first in the Premier League.
It’s hard to deny that Liverpool’s ‘cheeky’ teenager Roberto Firmino is one of the most important players in the Premier League. He has scored crucial goals in each of his past six games.
He has also helped Liverpool to European success. In December, he scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Monterrey in the Club World Cup.
After being written off last season, he has rediscovered his form. His goals have won 15 points so far this season.
As well as his goal scoring, he has been praised for his technical ability and positional sense. In January, he was named Player of the Month. The Brazilian striker was also a key figure in the team’s comeback against Glasgow Rangers.
Firmino made his debut for Liverpool in the league against Stoke City on 7 August. In December, he helped Liverpool to a 2:0 win over Chelsea. He has now scored 11 goals in his first season with the club.
Jurgen Klopp praises Darwin Nunez
After Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Aston Villa on Boxing Day, Jurgen Klopp praised the performance of his summer signing Darwin Nunez. The young midfield talent had an impact on the match, scoring his first senior goal in two minutes.
Nunez, who cost Liverpool PS64m, had a starring role in the win. He had an assist for a teenage midfielder Stefan Bajcetic’s goal and completed 88 passes before being substituted.
He also missed a few chances. The Aston Villa fans were chanting “you’re just a sh*t Andy Carroll!” when Darwin Nunez failed to find the net.
Nunez also has scored five goals in the league this season, which is an impressive return. Since Sadio Mane’s replacement, Nunez has provided more points for the Reds.
Liverpool’s three-point haul at Villa Park means that the Merseyside club has closed the gap with Tottenham to five points. Next up for the Merseysiders is a home game against Leicester City on December 31.

Jordan Henderson aims a shush in the general direction of the Villa bench
Stefan Bajcetic scored his first goal for Liverpool on Boxing Day, as Jurgen Klopp’s side smashed Aston Villa 3-1. The 18-year-old was making his second start for the Reds, replacing Jordan Henderson at the break.
Aston Villa had a chance to level when Joel Matip failed to head Watkins’ diving header into the net. Nunez also went close with his long-range effort.
However, Liverpool went into the break with a two-goal lead. It’s the second time in six years that Klopp’s team has won on Boxing Day. They have also gone on to win their opening Premier League game after club football has resumed.
Liverpool were in control until a pair of concessions from Ollie Watkins. He headed in the ball, but it was off-side and a touch was too much.
Jurgen Klopp hails Jude Bellingham’s ‘exceptional’ quality
The Liverpool manager has taken time to praise England midfielder Jude Bellingham. His praise is aimed at the player’s ‘exceptional’ performance in the recent FIFA World Cup.
While it is a pity that Bellingham won’t be able to play for Liverpool, he is now a target for some of the top clubs in the world. Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are two teams keen on the youngster.
Jurgen Klopp has made a number of public statements in praise of the youngster. He has spoken of the fact that Bellingham is one of the most promising talents in the world.
Liverpool have had an interest in the English midfielder since before he played for his country. Liverpool are looking to add another piece of the puzzle to their squad, and the 19-year-old is proving popular.
